Ongoing research at universities and dolphin centers around the world suggests that the sounds that dolphins make when they communicate underwater have a therapeutic effect. It is believed that swimming with dolphins, due to their sonar function, improves a person's immune system and stimulates the production of hormones and neurotransmitters, which are responsible for sensations such as peacefulness, happiness, self-awareness, and high self-esteem.

Today, Vallarta Adventures is proud to offer people who seek an alternative to medical treatments personalized dolphin assisted therapy programs for the purpose of providing their children with alternative wellness options through swimming with dolphins.

Our Dolphin Assisted Therapy weekend programs are based on respect, patience and affection for these dynamic and beautiful children, as well as these highly intelligent and gentle marine mammals.

Entering into the dolphin's world, educational and recreational activities are introduced to help increase motivation and enhance the personalized experience. To gain the child's trust, sessions are held in a controlled environment, with water temperature at 81 F, adequate music, and a therapist or trainer with full knowledge of the animal on hand.

These sessions combine the different elements of water, music and dolphins to stimulate the patient's central nervous system and allows us to individualize treatments for each child. Full communication between the therapist and the patient's doctor or specialist helps us to determine the patient's needs and develop different physical activities, such as in-water exercises, while interacting with the dolphins. Most of all, the children are able to have a fun-filled time away from the stress of medical, physical, or emotional concerns.

Our Dolphin Assisted Therapy programs help participants learn to feel more positively about themselves in an environment that promotes fun, play and learning, providing them with the opportunity to bridge that experience back into their personal lives. The overall experience causes a relative improvement in the child's awareness, mental state and in the way they relate to the environment around them, which can be noticed in session after session.

Intensive Therapy Sessions can also be provided mid-week. This special program consists of five 20 minute private sessions with the dolphins over 1 or 2 days. If you believe that your child would benefit from dolphin assisted therapy or our special Intensive Therapy Sessions, please send an email to DolphinAssistance@Dolphin-Adventure.com, or visit our website at DolphinAssistance.org.
